Thing Power

As you may have seen in previous posts, I have, on occasion, contributed to the popular online media journal In Media Res. Most recently, I wrote a post on how our technological gadgets–and tablets like the iPad, Nook and Kindle specifically–function as means of self-reflection. “Thing Power: Recognizing Our Reflections (or Not) in Our Tablets” discusses how important it is that we continually see new media technologies as sites of self-examination, revealing humanity’s strengths and weaknesses, rather than simply ‘magic’ machines. It’s this effort to find ourselves in the objects of our collective human labor that is at the heart of the theoretical foundations of TttC’s media literacy initiative.
